Molesey Hockey Club was formed in 1884, and soon
established itself as perhaps the foremost club in Britain. From 1885 to 1890
the club was unbeaten and during this period only four matches were drawn. On
more than one occasion the team representing the South of England contained as
many as six players from the Molesey Club. The first ever woman's hockey club
was formed in Molesey in 1887.
